I collected this lovely little Iris, Iris planifolia native to southern Spain more than ten years ago. It is proving to be pretty hardy have been planted out in the Mediterranean garden for the last seven years, with temperatures down to -5 and still doing really well.

Baobab plane tree Platanus x hispanica. The trunk take on this form due to a viral infection. This is one of seven in Canterbury. But they are widespread and found all over the UK.

An amazing survivor from a long ago forest. Now a street tree! This old oak is around 600 years old, and has a girth of over 7m. Thought to be an old boundary tree from Windsor forest, now more than 8 miles away!

Had a day grafting today, grafting some of Kew's special tree's. A very red purple beech, a particularly white form of Betula ermanii. And Cathaya on to Douglas fir, this is apparently done in Canada to increase its hardiness. Looking forward to seeing the results ...
