Woah, first time getting scammed from a real @ATT employee directly. I only caught this because I got suspicious and started digging Here's what happened...
Middle of the day and I get 3 calls in a row from an unknown number. I assume it's spam, but I also have kids in camp and you know, it could be an emergency. I answer call #4, it's ATT calling, great another sales pitch. "I'm not interested..." and I hang up.
The caller immediately calls back, which I answer - a bit out of curiosity. He says "No sir, I'm not trying to sell you anything. I just want to tell you that your Internet service has been upgraded. You just need to unplug and plug back in the router"
me: "I'm not home, will the service continue working if I do nothing?" him: "yes, of course" me: "ok, thanks" and I hang up. I'm sort of surprised, but also we have fiber and I can imagine they may be able to upgrade the lower tiers so I don't think much of it.
Shortly thereafter I get an email. Now I'm suspicious. The email looks somewhat amateur. Is this phishing? Was this phone call a pretext to establish validity so I'd open this email? They do have my acct # But what is this domain att-mail.com? That seems sus.
