My son Will loves his Maths. In fact, Iād go as far as saying he thrives on solving mathematical problems. Heās come home today upset because todayās reasoning paper was (in his words) just designed to fool you! He ended up just guessing many answers as he just wanted to getā¦
All year we use concrete resources and move towards pictorial in preparation for a test which is completely abstract š¤ Hereās a novel idea..lets remove the time limit and let kids use resources. Or, lets find a solution which doesnāt rely on testingā¦such as trusting teachers!

Question: What are āsymbol sentencesā in maths? Iāve seen them referred to in mastery documentation. Are they sentences which just use + - / x or are they number sentences which use symbols instead of values (where letters may be used in algebra)?
