Everyone devolves into either selfish hedonism, or the gnawing urge to be part of something bigger than yourself (where 'something bigger' ranges from children to a nation). Or at best an awkward admixture of the two. That's it. That explains the human comedy.

Look -- we all know how this VC slap flight will end. The fed will cut rates, institutional capital will plow into VC/PE again, all privates will moon, and all the VCs will go back to effusively praising each other in a misguided effort to generate deal flow. This is obvious.
