@MrSalashere I see you talk about CI a lot and I think my YT channel Comprehensible English would be of interest to you and your viewers. My videos are easy for beginners to understand & pick up English from by just watching & listening b/c I use lots of visuals with what I say:
@anuforo_love@MrSalashere While my videos like these might appear to just be to teach certain verbs, a main difference between them and a lot of the English teaching content out there is I *use* the words many, many times in meaningful ways with a variety of visuals and contexts: youtube.com/watch?v=8x1inM…
@MischaWilmers More research is needed on this to be sure, but in my experience adults can acquire features like tones through comprehensible input alone, IF the input sufficiently precedes output. Also they need to listen to the L2 on its own terms, not impose L1, etc. on what they're hearing.
Bad habits are the number one obstacle advanced learners face when improving their output.
When you've said something 20 times, it's going to feel natural/correct to you subjectively, regardless of how it sounds to a native.
That's why early output can cause long term damage.
Good video from @irishpolyglot about mental health and pace. When I learned of my friend's suicide a few weeks ago, I tried to keep going with my work but found I just couldn't do it. I took time away, have been talking to a counsellor and friends, and am gradually starting again
I'm trying to find a comprehensive site where anyone can easily look up and find free crisis counselling and other support for their country & language. I want to share it with my social media followers, who speak many different languages. Can anyone recommend anything like that?
@TerryWaltz_TCI@MartinaBex@skrashen I think that sometimes especially for beginners, it can be interesting or even compelling just to be able to understand messages in the L2 because they're presented in ways that make them highly comprehensible, even when the content itself isn't inherently that interesting.
[Language acquisition] happens without effort and it happens without worrying about it and you can’t stop it. It needs to be comprehensible and it needs to be interesting– so interesting that you forget you’re listening to another language.

“One of the most widespread and harmful myths in our society is that very young children will learn a second language automatically, quickly, and easily—with no special attention to their needs for an optimal learning environment.” —Dr. Catherine E. Snow
One of the best videos on language learning ever made... helped influence me to start Comprehensible Thai. Thanks to @beyondlanglearn for this amazing video! youtube.com/watch?v=yW8M4J…
@TimHampson I think two of the most important things for listening classes are making the input very comprehensible & giving lots of meaningful repetition. In my English videos I use visuals as much as I can with what I say & repeat lots e.g. by asking easy questions: youtube.com/channel/UCSW8F…
Is there any content that blind or visually impaired beginning ESL learners can listen to and start to understand and pick up English from, regardless of L1? This is my first attempt to make comprehensible input using sounds: youtube.com/watch?v=K4S_9r…#ComprehensibleInput#langchat
Do you know anyone who wants to start learning English? Share my English YouTube channel with them! It has many videos that are very easy to understand, even for someone who doesn’t know any English at all yet: youtube.com/channel/UCSW8F…
