Grotesque case out of CA5 this week. Allegations: A substitute teacher at @LorenaISD sexually abused a 5 year old pre-K student for 7ish months. Other teachers alerted the principal—whose response was to get mad they were documenting it. She later says, “We can’t be picky.”

Matt Zorn being named deputy general counsel at HHS, or the government's "psychedelics czar," is pretty significant news. Zorn has written extensively about how a real renaissance requires rescheduling general psychedelic substances, not just their pharma/medicalized spinoffs.

The term “due process” can sound like jargon, so when people use it consider replacing it with “factual accuracy.” The law says the government can do certain things to people if certain facts exist. Due process is how courts ensure that those facts actually exist.

95% of all convictions come from guilty pleas. 99% of cases resolve without a trial. Why: Mandatory minimums make trial too risky & the violence & trauma of pretrial detention coerce people to plead to go home or get out sooner. A perfect combination of forces to suppress truth.
