For someone who has always been a bit weak in math, or maths as we Brits say, Weaviate's article on Distance Metrics in Vector Search was an easy read, even worked along it on paper. weaviate.io/blog/distance-…
@cloud_assembler Hi Tony, this is awesome. Glad you enjoyed the blog post 😊
@cloud_assembler This is great! Explaining distances and vectors to people who aren’t familiar and how this relates to semantic similarity or something more intuitive has always been difficult for me.
@cloud_assembler I was struggling to understand this last week on what distance metric to choose: eucledean / cosine or dot product. I just gambled, but let me read this to understand better, thanks Tony
@cloud_assembler Any guidance on when to use a metric other than cosine distance? I know Hamming distance is used for things like nucleotide sequences. Some insight on specific use cases would be interesting.
@cloud_assembler @LindaSabei It is not because you are weak in math, but want you to realise what people do in communities, research and industry. Apparently, you don't only use these functions, but you also understand the math behind them while you are still a kid in Y7. thx @BYJUS
