Why can't Indian institutes organise international conferences completely virtual, that way they avoid the bureaucratic mess but still be able to network and collaborate? Difficulty in traveling or organising conferences is one of the key factors affecting collaborations imo

So there's this artist named Xavi Bou that makes these time lapse photos of bird flight He takes photos of them continuously as they fly so a single bird looks like a trail as it moves across the sky. They're incredible photos, but there's another reason I find them cool 🧵

I could write a volume, but will make just a few points. You can follow Prof. @abandopa for other views. 1. The funds crunch is not just at IITH, but at all IITs. The crunch is not only in R&D funds, but also in operating budgets. Universities are in much worse shape. 1/n

Eugene Parker is no more. A giant of cosmic magnetism is lost. This is deeply personal; Gene was the external review of my PhD thesis. I had the privilege to deliver the Parker Lecture named after him at a @theAGU @AAS_Office SPD meeting. I learnt most from reading his papers. +
