The ideal solution is to include all datasheet parameters for a given device. That requires the same parameter name across data sheets, which could be a challenge, especially for parts that Microchip acquired. What’s important depends on design. Every spec could be important.

For all aspiring engineers, don't get into this racket if you can't handle things going wrong! Second order of PCB assembly, first 3 I assembled to confirm design. Should go smooth right? WRONG. Assembly house installed 22pF cap instead of 22nF!!! Confirmed docs were correct.

Wouldn't it be easier to fix the one PICKit4 design (even if it was more complicated than one resistor there) then have to change the 10000's of customer designs that expect this to work correctly and as advertised? And @MicrochipTech could provide a kludge cable for the interim.

Alternate h/w option I prefer over GPIO resistors: A small 1-wire EEPROM memory (e.g. @MicrochipTech UNI/O) to a single micro pin. More precise versioning and room for calibration and device information. Standard test point access allows same tools to access during manufacturing.

Question for embedded/hardware engineers out there: What engineering websites do you have pinned in your browser right now? Right now the only one I have is @digikey and it's been there for at least a year.
Maybe a bit late: JST SH is nice and small and digikey has pre-crimped wires so you don't have to buy their tool (expensive) for lab work. At least they did the last I checked. SHJ series is slightly larger but locking.

But why wouldn't you? That's the challenge and fun of embedded design -- use as much of the chip you already have.
