Fwiw some people really do have ultra-noisy priors on reality. So they claim ignorance on everything and are unsurprised by new empirical findings, even transformative effects and precise nulls Don't agree with that philosophy anymore, but it is a consistent one.

Another thing about this is that code quality control is a race to the bottom. If you have high standards on code you're publishing a lot less than people who don't read the code at all. High standards gives you *worse* career prospects because of bean-counting for tenure track.
