Obviously, it was a dog called Ruby that was the actual inspiration, but it would be nice to imagine that the band would very much be #teamMoth After all, the band Stornoway are very much #teamBird
Meanwhile, this is one of those moths you might recognise, but you cannot know whether you're looking at a Dark Dagger or a Grey Dagger (Unless you raised it from eggs/larvae, did a DNA analysis, or dissected the genitalia!) #teamMoth #MothsMatter
Not a lot of people know that #TheKaiserChiefs are big on #teamMoth (Who isn't, eh?). This species, new for the year in my back garden, was the inspiration for one of their biggest hits, Ruby Tiger #mothsMatter
Last night was mostly clear, I think, and fairly windy, but not cold, so I find a zero catch rather worrying #teammoth 😬
Quieter moth trap at Gib Point this morning but this Flame Shoulder was NFY. Smart moths and always one I enjoy seeing my first of in the year. Also 3 late Hebrew Characters. Will have another go tonight… #teammoth #mothsmatter
Biggest catch of the year so far, only 16 of 10 sp. But 6 NFY in White Ermine, Green Carpet (5), Silver Y, Bright-line Brown-eye, Yellow-barred Brindle and Pale Mottled Willow. All the newuns looking very fresh. VC61 #Cottingham #teammoth #MothsMatter @BC_Yorkshire
The late-night thunder storms didn't seem to affect the moths too badly, with 35:13 to the Camden trap this morning. Three NFY included a couple of golden micros - Tinea trinotella and Pseudargyrotoza conwagana – and a lovely fresh Shuttle-shaped Dart. #TeamMoth
Only 2 moths in the trap this morn. White Ermine and Purple Thorn... #Teammoth #Northumberland
3 traps out last night, and rewards for us in each of them. Lesser Swallow Prominent in my trap, one of my favourites. Also trapped were Seraphim (mega rare here) and the first Ruby Tigers of the year. 61/18 with lots NFY. #teammoth #mothsmatter
Peppered Moth, Angle Shades, Swallow Prominent & Great Prominent at last nights actinic in the garden. #MothsMatter #teammoth
Psychoides filicivora in the garden just now NFY. Seems early, have to check... looking fresh, small and smart VC61 #teammoth ##MothsMatter
On a ‘normal’ good night I might get two or three Prominents. Recently there have not been many (any!?) goods nights, until last night, when I had 5 Swallow Prominent, 3 Iron, 2 Pebble, and one each of Pale and Lesser Swallow! #moths2024 #teammoth #mothsmatter
