I messaged @monzo on the chat but I could only speak to the AI. The AI told me that it was very common with a NYC Taxi that the amount would be incorrect and that the correct amount would show in a few days. I was still not convinced and kept trying to raise a dispute.

@monzo I have done a lot of travelling over the years and have always felt safe using my high street bank credit or debit card. I’ve had the odd scam happen to me in the past but HSBC refunded me straight away and never came back to me two months later to ask for the money back.

@monzo They did the refund on 26th of May. Then on the 16th of July they took the money back off me saying the merchant confirmed the charge of $174 was correct and that @MastercardUK accepted there response.

@monzo It would not allow me to raise a dispute for at least 5/7 days. I was only in NYC for 4 nights so it did not allow me to try to dispute the transaction myself whilst over there. I was finally able to dispute the transaction after some days. Monzo did a temporary refunded.

I arrived outside my hotel The Shelburne Sonesta and the driver passed me the card machine. The amount on the screen was $74 and I either did a contactless payment or put my pin in. I can’t remember. A day or so later I saw that the amount was for $174 (£131.32) and not $74.
