This is interesting — a compiler/runtime that makes almost all standard C/C++ code completely memory safe. The performance overhead is not negligible, but there are plenty of cases where “rewrite it in rust” still isn’t a practical solution.

Seems like every program's event loop will inevitably be replaced or augmented by a reasoning LLM. The remaining challenge is making it fast enough to match user expectations (~250ms) when executing on-device. I'm hopeful model distillation techniques will make this possible.

Today's vibe coding session created a prototype full of heisenbugs. My attempts at repair with more vibes couldn't solve it. I had to manually step through every part of the code to finally find the problem. Vibe coding is fun, but vibe debugging can be miserable.

The analogy I'd make for how "vibe coding" feels: I could not build a factory that molds plastic—I only have a general idea of how it works. But I definitely know how to use (molded plastic) Lego blocks to create interesting models and machines. It's a similar abstraction.

After a week of effort, "vibe coding" on a project gave me the same feeling as when I've authored a long design document. It's less satisfying than writing a computer program (even with genAI code autocomplete). But in some ways more impressive as a feat of software engineering.
