I heard for years that weight room success equals wins on game day. I thought that had to do with developing stronger athletes. That's only part of it. The other part has to do with weight room culture. It teaches commitment, hard work, grit, camaraderie, team work, sacrifice.
@jimshapiro Do all the gassers and oklahoma drill you want; nothing builds toughness like showing up day after day and working hard. They should be in the weightroom multiple times a week, as close to 52 weeks as you can get, from the time they are in 6th grade until the fat lady sings
@jimshapiro Had an old coach tell me you can’t take the weight bench out to the 50 yard line. It’s not all about brute strength. You have to be prepared in all facets of the game.
@jimshapiro I agree because it is very true. We lift on game day and turned our program around. I will add that it also develops muscle memory that translates to games, such as low squats = low players.
@jimshapiro Coach, spot on some want one or some want 10 days where they can have binding moments, we have about 180 bonding days from January until the beginning of the season. The weight room is a culture changer for sure.
@jimshapiro We made it fun and competed against each other.
@jimshapiro One of the extensions of HS football that plays a role in developing young men well beyond the physical component! Love it!
