This is a cross section of the Equatorial Pacific Ocean. It is quite stunning how quickly the cooler water in the central-eastern Pacific has been displaced by warming. The sub surface warming here is impressive. Significant El Nino in the making!! @WFLA

California will finally get a break from the storm parade that has slammed the state for 20+ days beginning this Friday and lasting for 7-10 days. But, there is good consensus among models for a return to wetter/cooler than normal conditions during the last few days of January.
For a deeper look region by region, we see that reservoir + snowpack is still lagging behind in NorCal, while reservoir + snowpack in the Central Sierra is above normal and WELL above normal in the Southern Sierra. Upcoming storms will have more of a focus on Oroville/Shasta.
California's water resource situation has improved exponentially, seemingly overnight. Water stored in the snowpack and reservoirs now exceeds the normal for the time of year and will continue to rise rapidly over the next 7-10 days.
