My advice to young college kids aspiring to work at non-profits: Don't. Go work for a soulless corporation that pays you in real money and has a decent work life balance and volunteer with a mutual aid org on your own time. These non profits are good person soul sucking vampires.

A person who I respect posts a lot of Prince deep cuts and it's all the absolute worst music you've ever heard. I would not trade Van Halen's fifth best record for Prince's entire catalog/situation. There are 3.5 good Prince songs and you already know them.

Metafilter has become, through combinations of out of step users choosing to self-select away from the site, and active moderation choices, a place where differences of opinion are not tolerated. This has really decreased the usefulness of Ask Metafilter. It's a real bummer!

The reason republicans get so incredibly huffy when any of the tools of law enforcement are ever turned upon them is they think “criminals” as an inherent class of people (who they of course could never be part of) rather than a descriptor for someone who commits illegal acts.
