I’ll never forget August 28th, 2005. My dad woke me up around 4am and said it’s time to go. He had the #Katrina NHC floater on the computer and that eye just popped out. I had a few days worth of clothes and we evacuated to the Northshore. I didn’t come back until months later.

33 years ago, Hurricane ANDREW made landfall in southern FL as a 165 mph Category 5. This was the final radar scan from NWS Miami before it was blown off the roof — a private residence would soon record a wind gust of 177 mph.
