Not doing big garden birdwatch until tomorrow but typically 14 Long Tailed Tits, biggest flock ever seen in the garden just now feeding on my homemade suet cakes, wondered what had been eating them!

Wonderful to see today that for the second winter running we have a male Blackcap in the garden. Sudden explosion of species numbers today, presumably due to the cold. 3 Goldfinches which I very rarely record, and a Long Tailed Tit.

Despite the significant growth in Wren numbers and it being our most common bird, we've just had one in our garden which is just my fourth record in 4 years. Nice to see

A Bullfinch on the Ercall today is a patch tick, and most unexpected. Only Finch species seen in a 6 hour walk. 26 species to start the year. First bird heard a Tawny Owl, first seen a Raven. @PatchBirding #pwc2024

No yank passerines on patch for me (unsurprisingly) but I'll content myself with a patch record count of Mallard (yes I know - and it was only 12), and the most Greenfinch I've seen since I was very young

Now up to 33 Starling juveniles on the front lawn opposite us, 8 adults present as well. Wonderful to see that a red list bird has had some local breeding success

Best I've got of a fantastic #westmidsalldayer yesterday at Belvide. First visit in far too long, great company and a cracking effort. First time I've ever heard a Quail, great to see the photos of it today.

42 species on my early BBS this morning near Stableford, despite nearby game shooting. Last records for the square in 1998 and 1999 so can't really compare but 42 is ~8 more than either of those. Wood Warbler on private land the highlight. @BTO_Shropshire

Great day! 19 mile walk from Church Stretton to Shrewsbury training for Coast to Coast. So many Kestrels! Few nice year ticks in the Darnford Valley, Pied Fly, Redstart, Whitethroat, a Red Grouse on the Mynd and bumped into @volewriter

My #BigGardenBirdWatch2023. Star the wintering male Blackcap I see every day. No finches, my only finch rec remains 2 Siskin for a week in Jul 21. Of note the lack of B and G Tits. More likely to see LTT tho none today. House Sparrows rule the roost here! @BTO_Shropshire
