Errors in three management areas. 1) Taking a firm private can reduce short-termism (e.g. Porter, 1992). Taking a firm private with a capital structure that compels short-termism, no. It might force you to make panicky cost-cutting choices.

This is a terrific conference for people interested in how AI is affecting the world. The organizers (@avicgoldfarb @joshgans @ce_tucker & Ajay Agrawal) also do a great job of bringing in perspectives from different fields (IO, labor, behavioral, health, marketing etc).

Good thread. It can be hard for PhD students to learn what tech jobs will be like. Of course jobs vary a lot. But it’s important to have examples like this that provide insight into the types of work that people are doing post PhD. Cc @Susan_Athey @steve_tadelis @johnjhorton

Companies often A/B test marketing campaigns (e.g. headlines in an email, or message content). These are often underpowered. Are there best practices for businesses with smaller reach still that want to test these types of campaigns? @garjoh_canuck @ronnyk

Airbnb makes fees & taxes less salient up front. On main page, Airbnb makes base price salient: bold & large font, with total price in small gray font below it. After clicking on a listing, they show more on fees. Research suggests this is profitable: pubsonline.informs.org/doi/10.1287/mk…

I've heard the argument that experiments & causal analysis in companies are mainly used for testing small changes (eg tweaks to a product feature) and that we should care mainly because these add up. For people working in this area: is this consistent with your experience?
