Park La Brea is a gem. It's the largest renter's complex west of the Mississippi. It's probably the most walkable and bikeable place you can find in LA. People from all backgrounds live here. And I'm so happy to call it home. A 🧵 on what it's like to live here:
As its name suggests, homes surround green space. Rowhouses encircle gardens. That set up makes it easy to make friends with neighbors since we all share a yard. Some people live in apartment towers that circle larger parks with fountains and walking paths.
@mirijulip I was thinking of a high rise unit once my current lease expires. Thanks for sharing this! Seems lovely and will be walking distance to my new office.
@mirijulip Family lives there, stay every time I’m in LA - Always talk about use it should be a model for rest of urban America
@mirijulip Sounds amazing. cc @UrbanCourtyard who will love this thread (if she hasn't seen it already).
@mirijulip Great thread - we need more Park La Breas! x.com/orenbj/status/…

@mirijulip Great thread! My grandma, grandpa, & aunt on my Dad’s side lived there for over 40 years. essentially their entire time here in LA. So I’ve been going since I was born. They had a duplex corner unit on a courtyard. The rent was cheap back then. It’s one of the best places in LA.
@mirijulip Thanks for this. I grew up in PLB, ‘89-09, living in three different apartments. Obviously loved it more before The Grove overran the Farmers Market, but I still think it’s great and so does my still-there mom :)
@mirijulip That walkable word gets thrown around a lot. I remember having to stock up on the weekends cuz nobody was trying to make the trek from those towers to anything nearby. Even getting food delivered was a pain.
@mirijulip With so many residents within walking distance, the decline of retail storefronts on Wilshire in the Miracle Mile is a real head-scratcher. Do you guys just get everything on Amazon now?
@mirijulip Between Park La Brea & Playa Vista, L.A. should have adopted these as a standard housing models.
@mirijulip This is an awesome thread, thanks for sharing. It’s truly an awesome complex.
@mirijulip another benefit of park La brea is that it’s going to be in walking distance of a subway station soon
@mirijulip Soviet block housing with palm trees, but bike lanes! 😂
