There's also a racial hierarchy within US public sector work, both within and across agencies, that is so obvious and overwhelming that it would lead to endless lawsuits if replicated in a major private sector firm.
The typical US local government is a 95% White high status/pay fire department and a 95% Black low status/low pay sanitation department. Yet if they contract out any work, they expect private firms to collect reams of data proving a perfectly random racial mix. Funny system!
@mnolangray I would note that fire departments are subject to many, many lawsuits for their racial balance. NYFD and many others are under federal monitor. Chicago lost a big case 20 years back. Of course SCOTUS Ricci case. Recent settlement in NC on this justice.gov/opa/pr/justice…
@mnolangray I started to understand public hatred of the DMV when I realized every DMV clerk I dealt with in a part of the country with a relatively low black population was a very polite, competent black woman. It's all racism, all down.
