There's also a racial hierarchy within US public sector work, both within and across agencies, that is so obvious and overwhelming that it would lead to endless lawsuits if replicated in a major private sector firm.
The typical US local government is a 95% White high status/pay fire department and a 95% Black low status/low pay sanitation department. Yet if they contract out any work, they expect private firms to collect reams of data proving a perfectly random racial mix. Funny system!
Have you ever heard of a restaurant or a store giving a discount to sanitation workers? It's a much, much more dangerous job than various professions that are lavished with discounts and praise. I wonder why?
