Before they could read, my kids pointed out all kinds of things right in front of me that I wasn't seeing. Written text to them was uninteresting so they'd focus on everything else. Making a conscious effort to ignore text in my visual field has made the world more interesting.

The problem with always speaking with certainty is being confidently wrong. As a listener, the only rational choice is to be skeptical of all of it.
Neats v. scruffies was differentiating along the wrong axis (neatness). The real differentiation is about legibility. It should be something like: designers v. growers or synthetics v. organics
