Because of warming and more intense wildfires, the ENTIRE Arctic is a giant permafrost experiment. Permafrost (frozen ground) stores twice as much carbon as is in the atmosphere. Our world’s global freezer is losing its ability to protect that carbon, releasing greenhouse gases.
