We all owe a debt to the PC gamers, who nobly funded years of GPU development before the rest of the world understood how useful they were.
It's true that coding could become commodity for application building. Mission critical systems will never become commodity because what they actually sell is reliability and quality. Code volume has never been the bottleneck if you've ever worked on mission critical systems.
