I was surprised that torch's RMS is not that fast, an operation that is applied so frequently in transformers. I was able to achieve ~1.5- 2x improvement over layernorm by using multiple warps to reduce the computation across the row.
o3 is extreme. I was banging my head against a nasty bug for 3 hours. Then tried gemini 2.5 pro, claude 4 and o3. None could solve or even begin to figure out the direction. Only thing that was able to figure out was -> o3 in agent mode with Cursor. It took it ~5 mins of thinking
