Given the societal damage done by social media, the future harm of AI, all the annoyances of SaaS, getting the brightest minds to spend their days trying and I get people to click on ads, etc, I think the future version of “go back in time to kill baby Hitler” will be to nuke SF.

It’s not a perfect analogy, but one way to think about anti-trust vs abundance is “anti-trust” are kinda the “law n order” types trying to build Cop City who think we can solve problems via more enforcement & “Abundance” is more “we need to address the systemic root causes.”

Europeans will spend a full day of travel sharing trains, plains, airports, bathrooms, and taxied w/ untold number of strangers harboring unknown viruses, only to arrive in a country w/ AC & then get sick, insisting it was the encounter w/ cool dry air that caused the illness.

Are immigrants from other countries considered “transplants” in this discourse? How much hangs on the connotation of the term transplant? If we used some other term like municipal immigrant would these takes come off as the municipal-equivalent of xenophobic or anti-immigrant?

Firing the head of BLS cuz you don’t like the job numbers is truly banana republic bullshit. Lnone of us can trust any numbers now that we know bad numbers will get you fired. What does that mean for analysts whose models now will have major “garbage in / garbage out” problems?
