Congrats, Fairhope! Now, how about another hundred acres of habitat to help the monarch? Several species of milkweed, such as pinewoods or sandhill milkweed (Asclepias humistrata), prefer longleaf pine ecosystems. #SaveTheTriangle to help save monarchs.

We must protect our waters. Dr. E. O. Wilson, senior advisor, calls Alabama “The Aquatic State” due to our exceptional aquatic biodiversity, including more types of crawfish than any other state. To #SaveTheTriangle is to protect Fly Creek.

The longer we put off managing the Triangle, the more we lose and the harder it’ll be. The more grown up it becomes, the more catastrophic a wildfire would be. We have to clear hardwoods, manage invasive species, and begin prescribed burns in the groundcover. #SaveTheTriangle
The good news: we’ve got longleaf pines and a few other species we’d like to save. The foundation is there. The bad news: it’s in bad shape. The canopy is closing in with undersirable species. Invasive exotics are hemming in the edges. We can’t wait forever to act.
We just got done looking over an environmental report for the Triangle. The message is the same as we’ve been saying this whole time: if we want to save the little bits of unique ecology left, we must manage the land. #SaveTheTriangle
This article explains why we suggest burning the Triangle: "Forests need fire. Without them, plants die, animals leave, and mounds of flammable undergrowth pile high." The longer we wait to manage the Triangle, the more we lose. #SaveTheTriangle southerlymag.org/2019/05/28/if-…
What will restoration to a longleaf pine woodland look like? Well, this blog details the steps being taken to restore a different, but similar, habitat in Florida, which shares certain aspects, namely longleaf, wiregrass, and fire. #SaveTheTriangle blog.wfsu.org/blog-coastal-h…
The Triangle Conservancy was founded not to impose a singular vision, but to engage citizens and apply pressure to move forward on managing the 108 acres. Neglect is not a sufficient management plan, and the property is a public park on paper only. We can do better.
$1 invested in environmental restoration creates $4 economic value by enhancing tourism/fishing #iheartestuaries
With more development going up along Fly Creek, now is the perfect time to commit to creating a conservation plan for the 108-acre Triangle property. #SaveTheTriangle

If we aren’t willing to sit down to both speak with and listen to one another, we aren’t going to get anything accomplished. To everyone who came out to the library to listen, ask, and find common ground, thank you. That’s how we will #SaveTheTriangle
Us: The city said they'd make this property a public green space for recreation and watershed protection when they acquired it. We'd like them to keep their word. The pro-development critics:
Great short (6 min.) video about longleaf pine and its ecosystems. #longleaf #SaveTheTriangle youtube.com/watch?v=o1nSok…
Hm, maybe instead of more development, which compounds runoff issues, we should set aside some existing green space... we're thinking someplace with trees, creek-adjacent... 😉 #SavetheTriangle

Conservation works. This is a huge success for a very important and charismatic species that calls longleaf pine ecosystems its home.
