He's using portrayals of demons to make a point about actual demons? Smh What if people often portray evil as androgynous not because androgyny is inherently evil, but because our bigoted society wrongly views it as unnatural, freakish, and other? We used to make demons black.

Children don't often speak out about abuse. There are many reasons for this, one of which is that children often don't have the language or cognitive ability to explain what is happening. No child should have to explain how an adult manipulates, gaslight or controls them.

Evangelical fundamentalism requires that you play within their rules and accept without question that the philosophies they tell you are dangerous and anti-Christian must be rejected & avoided dogmatically, or you will be cast out and branded "unbiblical" by the masses.

Many conservatives see racism only as a personal issue, which is why they like to use the “black on black crime” or “few bad apples” argument. They refuse to see racism institutionally. But the have no problem seeing the education system or the media as institutional. Why then?

Religion/theology prof. mentioned in class yesterday that many students growing up in the Protestant-Evangelical mileau have a hard time understanding the concept of "religion" as a study because they are so used to thinking of faith as purely belief, that which is cerebral.

🧵Many of us were/are still sold a prosperity gospel. It isn't as crude as "believe and God will give you money", but it is "believe/do X and you will be blessed". Even "God's plan for human flourishing" language seems performative and transactional to me.

Separating respect from love and brotherhood turns "respect" into obeisance. Respect no longer becomes something you share one to another, but one thing Person A gives to Person B that is the "acknowledgment of another's superiority or importance" (Webster). Aka, worship.
