Personally I wouldn't even consider retirement with a dime less than $10M. And even then, no more than a 2% withdrawal rate to ensure I die with as much money as possible.

Honestly, waiting becomes the easy part once you understand how investing works. Invest enough, freely spend the rest, and enjoy your life. Waiting only becomes difficult when you hate your current life and think being FI asap will solve all of your problems.

Stop minimizing the importance of money. Instead, acknowledge how important money is in the pursuit of happiness. Determine how much you need to live the lifestyle you desire. Then figure out how to get that much.
