@Julitacm_ presented a paper that engaged deeply w one of my favourite works, Shefter 1977. She showed us the value of inter-regional comparisons. Her carefully conceptualized paper traced why Argentina + the US diverged when it came to passing civil service reforms. 3

After reviewing the announced 2022-23 stipends for bioscience and humanities/social science Ph.D. programs at twelve institutions, we found that only TWO universities, Princeton and Brown, pay more than the local cost of living. Public universities pay even less. 2/x
