The storms we witnessed yesterday are rare. We ended the day with nearly 170 damaging wind reports, 59 of them significant at over 75 mph. That’s the 2nd highest number of hurricane-force wind reports from a non tropical storm in the U.S. since 2004. bit.ly/37Kvw22

|| 810 am Severe Weather Outlook Update || Just a slight adjustment to the Enhanced Risk area, shaving off the US Hwy 20 area. The southern end of the tornado risk area has also been trimmed, now covering areas near/north of Hwy 18. Forecast timing & hazards remain on track.

SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE 3:30 pm 3/29/22: Severe storm chances have increased primarily for northwest Iowa. Large hail up to ping pong ball size will be the main hazard. Can't rule out an isolated damaging wind gust to 60 mph. The time frame for severe storms is 7 pm to 11 pm.

❄️potential today: 1. E flow is *very* weak this AM. SEA-EAT is only at -0.7mb. Even if it slightly increases don't think it'll be enough to overcome WAA 3. This looks like a Whatcom-only event. Quick transition to rain for everyone else 4. GFS snowfall maps seriously suck #wawx

One positive for this area tonight is the trajectory of the showers moving in off the coast - coming from the WSW. This is a good direction to hit the Maple Valley/SE King County areas. We also seem to be holding on to the cold air pretty decently w/temps in low-mid 30s. #wawx

A new Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by @NWSSeattle for the foothills. Calling for 1-3 inches between 10PM-10AM tmrw. Remains to be seen whether Maple Valley will join in on the fun (cold, slushy rain is not fun!) or if this will stay up in North Bend areas. #wawx

❄️MORE WET SNOW TONIGHT ❄️ Showers will continue to sweep through the Sound later this afternoon & evening. As temps drop, more wet, 36-degree-ish snow is likely, with brief, slushy accumulations possible. Would imagine many school districts will be 2 hours late tomorrow.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by @NWSSeattle for the East Puget Sound Lowlands aka the foothills, including Maple Valley, for up to 3 inches of wet snow through 6AM tomorrow. Currently 33 in Maple Valley (520') w/temp continuing to drop. Still rain for now. #wawx

Here's the heavy precip moving inland that will help drive the snow level down thanks to dynamic cooling. Already reports of snow in Kitsap, including some thundersnow! Woo! Amounts still highly in question but best shot at a couple inches is over 400-500ft N & E of SEA. #wawx

645 PM radar update - Heavy precip continues to push inland. Thundersnow reported over the with spotters in the higher elevations of the Kitsap reporting 2-3 inches of snow over the last 1-2 hours. #wawx

Anybody up for some more? GFS has been incredibly consistent in showing large snow totals tonight into tmrw. Euro less bullish w/lower totals. High-res models are in-between. I think some snow in the foothills, including Maple Valley, is likely depending on precip rates. #wawx
