Now that the April 8 eclipse is over, we'll be keeping a low profile until the next major eclipse in 2026 but we'll continue to post occasional alerts about upcoming minor eclipses. NationalEclipse.com will remain up and running as a general resource about solar eclipses.
Commemorate your total solar eclipse experience with one of 13 vintage art prints depicting some of the key viewing sites along the April 8 path of totality. nationaleclipse.com/store.html
Today we updated our eclipse chaser "To Do List" t-shirt with a new checkmark. It's also available without "2023" if you're only a total eclipse chaser. Get yours today (or tomorrow, or the next day...) nationaleclipse.com/store.html
If you claim to have seen totality through your eclipse glasses, you had unsafe glasses. Don't use them again. The reason you're supposed to remove your glasses during totality is because it's safe to look without them and real glasses are too dark to see ANYTHING through them.
Not for nothing, but the big weather forecasting websites were extremely unhelpful for this eclipse. One example: Two major sites, one says 25% cloud cover and another says 75%. And no indication of what KIND of clouds. Need to do better.
If you witnessed the total eclipse yesterday from a viewing site near a road, you probably saw people continuing on their merry way, headlights on, during totality. Happens every eclipse. It's sad. Who doesn't have three minutes to pull over and witness something extraordinary?
If you saw totality yesterday, let us know if you saw the huge solar prominence on the bottom of the Sun with your naked eye.
So, here's the thing, people who have never seen totality think it's all about "darkness." Not even close.
Also in the news today, Erie County (NY) executive @markpoloncarz is being criticized for leaving cloudy western New York to see totality in Ohio. Good for you, Mark. You did exactly what a good eclipse chaser should do.
In other news today, "The View" co-host @sunny Hostin claimed that yesterday's eclipse was related to climate change. (Note: There's no political motivation to this post. The point of this observation is to show how little solar eclipses are understood by the general public.)
In the news today, former basketball great @_CharlesBarkley called anyone who stood outside to watch yesterday's total solar eclipse a "loser" and an "idiot" because "hey, we’ve all seen darkness before." Perhaps some of our followers might have some words for Mr. Barkley...
Now that the eclipse is over, let everyone know that "Totality Was Totally Worth It" while supplies last. nationaleclipse.com/store.html (Okay, supplies will last indefinitely. But you're supposed to say that...)
If you saw totality yesterday, have you tried to describe it to someone who's never seen it before? It's impossible! There's no way it can be put into words to make someone understand and photos and videos come nowhere near to portraying what it's like in person.
Now that the eclipse is over, you might be wondering when you'll next be able to see totality in the U.S. Here are the next three totals in America, in 2033, 2044, and 2045. Start making your plans...
Many people who have seen a total solar eclipse for the first time vow then and there that they MUST see the next one. When is the next one? On August 12, 2026, with a path of totality crossing over Iceland, Potugal, and Spain. Yes, please!
@NationalEclipse #akron #ohio . And huge kudos to my good friend (and meteorology professor) @sirvatka , who INSISTED that the high cirrus clouds would not affect the view at all!
@NationalEclipse Saw totality in Robinson, IL. These are handheld shots from my camera. The diamond ring with less glare was processed a bit. The other two are originals except for being cropped.
The 2024 total solar eclipse from Dallas Texas. First look at the camera photos (cropped only). The crescent sun as the moon creeps towards totality. Thin solar crescent shortly before totality. Diamond Ring at 2nd contact. Totality 🙂 @NationalEclipse @MoonHourSocial
@NationalEclipse I was at a horse ranch in Texas. Blanket clouds before and after, but from first contact to fourth the clouds were quite forgiving. It was my first eclipse but we're already tentatively planning our next two! 😁
@NationalEclipse Skiing under totality at @SugarloafMaine, 3:31pm EST!

Ended up in Hugo, Oklahoma for the total eclipse. It was still a fight with clouds with limited time and breaks in them but we were able to see the beginning and almost a minute of totality. An amazing experience to say the least. #Eclipse2024

@NationalEclipse Clouds covered part of totality, but it was more visible than I thought it would be at 9am when setting up in Waco, Texas!
@NationalEclipse I'm in Greenfield Indiana and this was by far the coolest piece of history I've ever witnessed. It was magical!
@NationalEclipse My impression was that it was darker and cooled off more than I remember 2017's being. But 2017 was in August vs April this time. I was in NW PA this time and eastern Tennessee in '17.
@NationalEclipse We went almost to the Canadian border in Vermont to beat the clouds. It was definitely darker than Tennessee in 2017
@NationalEclipse Made it to Montpelier, VT with about 30 min to spare before totality
@NationalEclipse I live in Northern Vermont, and it was amazing.
@NationalEclipse Avon Lake, Ohio. Brothers GF got these in our front yard
@NationalEclipse Georgetown TX, both high and low clouds, the latter parted at totality. 1st pic with pixel 7, 2nd through a telescope (near Liberty Hill, TX) Prominence visible with naked eye!
@NationalEclipse Mount Pleasant, TX. An amazing second TSE after 2017 in Kentucky! Indeed a very dark eclipse if compared to 2017! And those prominences!!! WOW!!!
