You can assume there is a lot of overlap between people saying a neighbourhood infrastructure cannot support extra density (and claim that units are "too big"/"luxury") and those complaining about losing the VP.

Thank you councillor!
Thank you councillor!
If you can't be at council on April 17th, you can still write in. Easiest way: 1. Go here: secure.toronto.ca/council/agenda… 2. Click on "Submit Comments" at the top. 3. If you have an email program or are logged into Gmail, you should get a pre-formatted email and can add your comments /2
The problem with not allowing density adjacent to currently zoned "apartment neighbourhoods" is that it causes adverse reactions such that we end up tearing down great, and relatively affordable buildings. The environmental and human cost of this is high. tinyurl.com/2hrfnvas
A must read if you care about the future of Toronto. "The city has to look at giving up the idea that you can live 50 feet from College Street in a detached house and pretend that you’re in the suburbs". 👏

In my deputation to the budget committee, I asked @cityoftoronto to increase the total budget for city-funded drop-ins, our most used service by unhoused people, by $1 million — a 25% increase. Today, @MayorOliviaChow announced an additional $1.413 million for drop-ins. A win!

4K Followers 5K Following Transit researcher, non-aligned 47+ years @4 TO papers, retired Author of report on soaring subway-building costs They want us to trust, but won't let us verify@Markshawtoronto @herlanderdi @DianneSaxe City Councillors work within a fundamentally broken system that prioritizes the voices who have — “unlimited amounts Free-Time available during weekdays at City Hall” — which ergo self-selects for older, wealthier, retiree-homeowners in near-core districts like the Annex, etc…
As long as we make decisions based on whichever neighbours squeak the loudest at 2pm on a Wednesday, we will not build a city in which people who do not already own property can live.
The trouble with transit-oriented development: we’re pushing density to suburban train stations and underserved neighborhoods theglobeandmail.com/canada/article…
Toronto: @OntarioLine proposals display the preposterous inequity at work. Rich, central Riverdale is barely being touched while Thorncliffe Park gets huge density.
Since day one, my residents have told me that affordable, high-standard housing close to transit is the most urgent priority facing our city. 91 Barton is exactly the kind of development we need in exactly the right place. It's a gentle density infill project of family-sized…
🚨Existing residents are opposing CoA applications like this.🚨 It has *39 letters of opposition*. Do not let them win! E-mail a quick letter of support to the City ASAP: [email protected] before April 17. This is *exactly* the kind of density & change this City needs!
An 11-storey building in the Annex is a crisis, but:
The future of Scarborough’s Golden Mile neighbourhood sees over 35,000 residential units proposed across more than 75 towers. The area will eventually be serviced by several transit stops along the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. #Toronto #urbanplanning #transit
A response on housing from a resident’s group
Hi @DianneSaxe, we watched you speak in TEYCC today, and would love to discuss why neighbourhoods like ours and the Annex became so great, but also what makes them so deeply unaffordable now. No amount of community outreach will get homeowners in these communities to support ...
@PalmerstonRA I’m fine with land owners doing what they want on their private property. They want to tear down and build a multimillion SFH? Sure no problem. But that also means tearing down and building an apartment is also ok.
@PalmerstonRA Definitely said something similar to this in my dep @ TEYCC too, thanks so much friends! Hope we can work together to build a better, bolder, Bloor West 🥰
@PalmerstonRA The project was approved by council earlier this year. We are in design to bundle with the road and water works and doing targeted consultation to resolve some issues before tendering (why we were there today). x.com/to_cycling_ped…
Council also approved upgrades to existing cycle tracks on sections of Dundas St E and Harbord St/Hoskin Ave, which include adding permanent curbs and green infrastructure, and reversing the parking lane and cycle track for improved cycling safety. toronto.ca/cyclingupgrades (2/2)
Affordable housing and bike infrastructure go hand in hand, so a few of our volunteers were out at the 'Coldest Day of the Year' ride! This year may not have been the most grueling run, but winter transportation of all kinds are possible due to a choice to invest in maintenance!
The new bike lanes on College Street in Toronto are looking pretty darn nice
Hey @GreggLintern @CityPlanTO! On questions like this in the Major Streets survey, is "Very Uncomfortable" always taken as "I am uncomfortable, this is too dense/too close/etc", or are they taken together with accompanying comments? Some of our members were asking!
Thank you for speaking up! It seems like the only people Dianne listens to are residents associations so we need more RAs to join us as allies!
Terribly cruel situation going on at Saint Stephen-in-the-Fields. @DianneSaxe, this is not a compassionate solution for our neighbours!
@BradMBradford Haven't seen them ticket a single driver. They do love to yell at pedestrians however. Must be part of the training/culture.
@PalmerstonRA Seeing this reminds me of a holiday trip with my 4yo son in Montreal two years ago. He was cycling on training wheels. I rented Bixis. At the end of the day, the Bixi app showed we had done more than 10k, all on safe cycling tracks or paths.
Let the City of Toronto know your feedback on "micromobility" options like bikes, e-bikes, scooters and more, on city streets and bike lanes. The public survey is open until December 13th, 2023: s-ca.chkmkt.com/?e=360685&d=l&…
@PalmerstonRA @brianbswizzle @CycleToronto I would e-mail @TO_Cycling_Ped ([email protected]) and the local councillor (Saxe) regarding both Bloor and College. Sanscon has a poor track record of delivering several projects behind schedule and were the subject to a couple of recent IEC motions. twowheeledpolitics.ca/2023/09/the-ne…
It seems Toronto is shelving the plans for pedestrian-only areas in Kensington Market despite survey respondents being 85% in support. City staff are depressing and unbelievable sometimes.
