Not a single word in the Beatitudes relates to human notions of what a kingdom is like. Human ideas of kingdom building focus on nation, race, tribe, military strength, and wealth. Jesus teaches that greatness in His kingdom is found in the character that reflects His likeness.

Two quick reflections 1.) Theological conservatives have done a TERRIBLE job of loving LGBTQ people. If you truly believe "hate the sin, not the sinner" - they are not getting that message. They assume we hate both the sin and the sinner. We NEED to love LGBTQ people better. ..

The biggest con ever is that Genesis 1 is anti-scientific. The truth is, it is miraculous. How did a bunch of Bronze Age nomads know that the universe had a beginning and the earth and all life was developed over time? "Science" only figured this out recently.

Preached at a funeral tonight. I never tire of using this powerful image from theologian, Kosuke Koyama. Koyama imagined Jesus says this to those who see him upon death: “You’ve had a difficult journey. You must be tired, and dirty. Let me wash your feet. The banquet is ready.”

Man, police officers have such a hard job! To make life or death judgment calls within split seconds knowing that whatever you do will be second guessed is not for everybody. I’m thankful for those officers that never make the news who protect & serve with honor & compassion.
