I think some may have misunderstood the point here. It’s not that $1m ARR is bad or that the standard has moved north to some arbitrary number. It’s that revenue traction and PMF are more uncorrelated than they have ever been. Which actually explains a lot of funding behavior.

The reason people used to cite $1m ARR as a Series A benchmark for software is because it was a proxy for PMF, business model decisioning, and GTM skeleton. Today, I would bet the large majority of companies with over $1m ARR or annualized revenue do not have PMF
