Everyone wants to teach "AI skills" but nobody knows what "AI skills" are as of today, let alone for the future. We can teach a bit about how LLMs work, and give some advice on prompting, but, beyond that, what are people supposed to learn to make them "AI ready"? No clear vision

What percentage of students are you willing to falsely accuse of cheating with AI? There is a trade-off between that and detection rates for AI. At a 10% false positive rate, detectors find 80% or less of AI content. At a 1% rate most find 60% or less. Don’t trust AI detectors!

Authorship isn't designed as a tool for faculty--it is user controlled. I cannot demand a student provide a digital report of their writing without their consent, nor could I mandate that a student use such a tool that tracks their movements across the web. We need to pause /2

We’re racing to offload as many skills and experiences as we can think of and for what? Paying for a bespoke service to summarize a novel for you with AI narration and limited human involvement misses the point why people read. Why would anyone automate reading for leisure?

LLMs, especially faster, cheaper models, are not fully factual. So it is odd to see early deployment (search results, "talk-to-your-documents" models) focus on areas where 100% factuality is expected Better to start with the higher order tasks they do well (creativity, analysis)

Giving a talk at HBS on AI and business frontiers conference, and one story that Mary Erdoes (CEO of asset management at JPMorgan Chase) shared is that they have “AI whisperers” paired with top executives to try to figure out how to automate their jobs tasks & problems they see.
