So unrelated to any professional or organizational hats a wear. I wrote back in 2016 about the rapid transit systems that could have been. Check it out here if you never saw it. raisethehammer.org/article/3021/a…
I talked a bit about the opposition to that project who still use some of that exact language as anti-public transit voices. I wrote about that here... raisethehammer.org/article/3262/l…
What didn't dive into however was the opposition back then that also came from progressive voices. @hamiltonlabour @YWCA_Hamilton @SPRCHamOnt NDP riding associations, building trades unions.
@hamiltonlabour @YWCA_Hamilton @SPRCHamOnt A pile of amazing orgs. Check here if interested. I might screen shot a few tomorrow to add to the thread. My point is community and labour came together to provide historic support for this transformational project, not oppose it. Today's council vote drive.google.com/file/d/0BwXWOI…
@hamiltonlabour @YWCA_Hamilton @SPRCHamOnt Might make it harder to win support from those orgs with @Metrolinx continued lack of transparency on tenant supports and rights or clear in writing promises on good jobs and Community benefits. Not to mention affordable housing. Who will #yesLRT activists turn for support?
@hamiltonlabour @YWCA_Hamilton @SPRCHamOnt @Metrolinx My humble opinion as a strong supporter of the project. Previous transit project died here because we didn't have strong local wide reaching community support. Only time will tell if history repeats itself. And we miss another opportunity to build rapid transit in #HamOnt
