There's research on hype and new tech! Nelson Phillips, in my dept @UCSBTMP a leader there. tl;dr hype is a predictable, required mechanism for development/integration/harms/value from general purpose technologies. We haven't seen those outcomes without it!

AI use is flooding the world with B+ content. In that world, expertise is far more valuable. It allows us to convert a B+ to an A. But far more importantly, it allows us to select targets that can be an A+. Most B+ options can't go there, and have opportunity costs.
