Most instances of fake news debunked by Newschecker in June were in Hindi (30%), while English came second forming 20% of 257 fact checks.
How is misinformation shared? Based on the 257 claims debunked by Newschecker in June, branding images and videos with false and misleading claims on them seems to be the popular format.
With Nupur Sharma controversy spilling into June, no surprise that most claims (37%) fact-checked by Newschecker were political in nature, followed by religious (21%).
Of the 257 instances of fake news in June, 42% claims were analysed to be false, whereas 31% were shared with missing context.

How is misinformation packaged? Mostly (42%) in the form of an image superimposed with a text, followed by video superimposed with video (28%)
How is misinformation shared? 37% of the instances found to be incorrect were in the form of genuine information including videos and images shared in false context. While 21% of the claims were found to be fabricated.
Hindi & Tamil saw a rise in instances of fake news in comparison to April. Number of claims debunked by Newschecker in Hindi in May went up from 25% to 27%, while in Tamil, the figures saw a rise from 10% to 14%.
With the Gyanvapi row blowing up on social media, most misinformation debunked by Newschecker in May was political in nature (42%), followed by religious claims (21%)

Misinformation has several forms, and false content formed much of it (27%), followed by misleading content (26%) and information shared in false context (26%).
Newschecker's monthly misinformation analysis finds most posts that were flagged as fake news/misinformation, were in Hindi (35%), followed by English(17%) and Tamil (13%).
The recently concluded elections in 5 Indian states & the Russia-Ukraine conflict contributed to the climate of misinformation, with 43% of the 282 claims debunked by Newschecker falling in the political category, while 23% pertained to international events.
