My advice whenever you are given a tool, idea or method: Ask who invented this? What problem were they trying to solve? and Do I have that problem? (You usually don't).

Two simple 30 seconds checks would have helped to deter many fraudsters from milking the Covid furlough schemes and loans & save the UK billions of pounds. The govt did not apply them. The Minister can't explain the failure and his reply is gibberish. taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2022/01/2…

Q. Why would a carpenter be hanging by his arms through my loft hatch? A. Because a ladder partially collapsed. Why might that be? The usage label is upside down, incorrectly depicting the right position as safe when, in fact, it’s the left. Safety recall time, @WernerLadderUK ?

UK govt does not like the less well-off. Millions of people facing £1,040 cut in universal credit. They will also pay higher National Insurance Contributions. That is Kicking-down, not levelling-up. Expect bigger queues at foodbanks, reliance on charities, struggles to pay bills.

#socialcare People say demand is rising. It is not. When you study health and care systems you learn that demand is stable. What's rising is failure demand. A signal of ineffectiveness.

#socialcare This week we listen to Whitehall folk argue about which tax has to rise to pay for social care; all well and good. But no discussion about how much money we waste providing care that doesn’t help. Studies show that it can be between 30 and 50% of care costs.

#socialcare Life’s easy for politicians. You get it wrong – in this case with social care – and instead of having to work on why you simply throw more of our money at the problem. More money won’t fix a broken system.
