It's easy as an owner to get distracted by the negative in the day to day. A new employee came in this morning and said this is the happiest he's been at work for years, having been with us for about a month. Feels heard and supported. Great way to start the day!

I had an intense meeting yesterday. One of our leaders called on his way home to say "thanks for going to bat for us, I know it isn't easy but we all appreciate it". He didn't have to do that, but it sure feels nice to have people see the work the goes on behind the scenes!

We've had a couple great examples recently on holding our ground as a company. If we are strong/confident in our position, we shouldn't concede just because of incoming pressure from another group. Proud of our team.

Tough life lesson for our son who is in grade 1 this week: Came home with a holiday chocolate fundraising brochure. Thought all the goods he sold went into his own pocket, not to the school. Needless to say, he's much less keen on hustling his product. Pretty hilarious.

We had an (attractive) foreign applicant who applied for a position. The closing line on her cover letter was that "she liked to leave a bit of herself in people". Hopefully just a lost-in-translation sentence! Our office is howling.

In the last two years we've added in-house design to our company. We can take a raw parcel, create a site plan for feasibility analysis and then create/coordinate the entire set of drawings for the client. Having construction and design under the same roof is a game changer!
