This is it! Closest approach from #HurricaneErin to the OBX. About 200 mi offshore. NC 12 closed south of Pea Island. Waves at Oregon Inlet 15 ft. No rain here, just tropical storm force wind!

Just an observation... Outside of late May/Early June spurious Central America vorticity spin-ups with the GFS, very few bogus canes so far this season. Wonder how this compares to "climo" (if that's tracked). Will this last as model runs get further into August?

With at least one tornado yesterday, that marks 10 consecutive days with a tornado (through April 5). This is the earliest in the year the US has observed a tornado for 10 consecutive days (1950-present). The previous earliest 10 day streak on record ended April 12, 1965.
