⚠️ How BAD have US layoffs become? US employers have announced 892,362 job cuts year-to-date, the highest number since the 2020 Crisis. Excluding 2020, this is the largest count since the Great Financial Crisis. Hiring plans in August were the lowest since 2009.
It gets worse: all jobs gains were part time Full-time jobs: -357K Part-time jobs: +597K
The number of people who are not in the labor force but still want a job rose by 179K in August. Had these folks been counted as unemployed, the unemployment rate would have increased from 7.6% to 7.8%.
This is absolutely insane: The US just revised the June jobs report lower for a SECOND time for a total of -160,000 jobs. Now, the US has officially LOST -13,000 jobs in June, the first negative month since July 2021. What just happened? Let us explain. (a thread)
