The city of Toronto often argues that raising taxes on development - even the smallest units, is progressive and necessary for infrastructure. They will also argue that a 10x increase in development charges hasn’t contributed to the rising cost of housing in the city 🤡

Remember, DCs don't affect the ability to build. And that's why the City of Toronto is requesting $1 billion from the provincial government to replace DCs and forgone property tax revenue in order to get more housing built.
