This news is encouraging and welcome. This clause gives Ship Owners the possibilities to deviate to an alternative place if crew changes can’t be done at the places where the ship is ordered by Charterers.

To me, OCIMF has been the biggest let down by not stopping the inspections during this time. An organisation that has 179 pages long checklist to verify the safety standards of the ships, failed to consider the safety of the seafarers during COVID.

A 4 month contract became 7 1/2 months. Seafarer & his daughter were separated. Observe their emotions of anguish & pain, joy & happiness. On #dayofseafarer appeal to @shipmin_india @MoCA_GoI to recognise #SeafarersAreKeyWorkers and remove all restrictions for their travel home.

Seafarers are overlooked key workers without whom the world would not have half the food we eat, essential fuel & medicines, and imports. Governments need to formally recognise #SeafarersAreKeyWorkers and ease travel restrictions for them.
