Thermal Bridging: when heat is allowed to pass through an assembly due to a part of it being more conductive than the materials around it. ex. In wall assemblies at the wall stud where insulation isn't continuous.

Affordable Housing: In Canada, according the CMHC (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation), a unit is considered "affordable" if the family unit spends no more than 30% of their before tax income on rent and utilities such as hydro.

Laminated Veneer Lumber: (aka: LVLs) an engineered wood product that uses multiple layers of thin wood assembled with adhesives. Kind of like Plywood, but much thicker and stronger. Used for headers, joists and rim boards.

Genkan (玄関): an entry way design commonly used in Japan. This is where you would take off your outdoor shoes and put on slippers before going into the house. Can have the rest of the floor slightly raised around it, or just a change in material to mark the boundaries.
